Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan

Digital Photography, Memory, Landscape, Digital, 24x20cm
During the summer of 2012, I had a unique opportunity to live very close to Lake Michigan in New Buffalo, Michigan. When I arrived at the lake, I was told that the lake changed every day, but I found this statement very hard to believe. After photographing the lake most every morning and evening, I was amazed at the sometimes subtle and at other times dramatic fluctuations in the water and the sky. Making long exposures in the evening, I captured both the variation in the landscape as well as a quiet stillness on the horizon. The process is serendipitous; prior to making a print, the outcome of the exposure is unknown. The light and time captured by the camera cannot be seen by eye, and it is this sense of wonder and surprise that compels my image making.
