Poppies Revolt

Poppies Revolt

Painting, Abstract informal, Mixed technique, 101.x76.2x5.08cm
Poppies Revolt is a mixed media painting created using layers of recycled newspapers and acrylic paints. The paintings first several layers consist of newspaper articles from The New York Times, USA Today and my local paper the Westport News. The next several layers are made up of paint, brushed and dribbled

The newspapers are all from May 2, 2011, the day Osama Bin Ladin was killed. The layers are crude and abrupt with several of the headlines and words peeking through. These layers represent our society and the destruction man has created in this world. The paint dripped, thrown and brushed on top of the newspaper is meant to symbolize nature, rising above the destruction of man any way it can.
