painting’s sensual presence as an object, and yet strangely alludes to a pre-modernist and mediaeval-gothic sensibility toward anatomy. I often think of this work as attempting to describe some deep, but barely felt archaic memory of forms that might make the human. These paintings are on silk supports whose spun ‘skins’ bring their own bodily memory to the structure of the painting.
