Self-portraits in Berlin
Collage of self-portrait taken inside an original photographic boot from the ‘50/’60 found at the C/O Berlin International Forum For Visual Dialogues. Against digital photography, I decided to go back to the more physical traditional printing process, fascinated by snapshots that you can’t control nor delete on your digital camera and also by the fact you have to wait for 4 long minutes before getting your pictures printed and still wet. Pictures that prove your being here and now. “These pictures will last 50 years” as you can read on the old photographic boot: I was also fascinated by the idea these pictures have already an expiring date, which reminds us of memory and death, as photography itself does, capturing moments that are gone forever.
The choice of taking self-portraits is part of my personal artistic work, within which photography is used as the best way to know and express my own identity that also intends to be a mirror of others’ lives and emotions.
