Greeting from Charleroi to Roma 2011

Painting, Architecture, Landscape, Mixed technique, 245x225cm
I try to explore the nature of drawing and painting in this contemporary and complex time. The theme I used for my work ‘Gathering momentum of the future’ is a collaborative artwork I do in public telephone booths in Brussels and other cities in Europe.

I gathered doodles and scrabbles from telephone booths, fragments of graffiti from streets, marks from markers and pen shops and some colors from bob the builders’ marks in order to make artworks with the dynamic interactive energy of cities.

The work I am presenting for Celeste 2011 is called Greeting from Charleroi to Roma. The doodles and marks I assembled from telephone booths of Charleroi, from friends and myself. The architecture I draw on it, is the train station of Charleroi.

Charleroi was very important for glass, coal mining and steel industry. Immigrants living there contributed a lot for the industrial development.
