A small child is confronted with the vastness of the factory, its ominous chimney stacks spewing poisonous fumes that destroy the green valley...How long can Nature withstands these assaults? And the child, in his innocence, is helpless: there is nothing he can do, escept look on, paralyzed...
This is a deliberately figurative painting otherwise the message would never get through: without the child in the foreground, how could we feel the horror, the fear, the dispair?
