... the starting point was a Dictionary, and the word ‘Dictionary’ within it and its definition.
I liked the idea of the Dictionary defining itself. The work was made large enough for the text in the dictionary to be read.
I then played on the Metaphor of the Body/Self as Book or Text.
The metaphor of selfhood as represented by the text or the book is an old one and has become em<x>bedded in our language. We make ‘mental notes’ ‘turn over a new leaf’ we refer to someone’s ‘character’
Opening up the book is likened to Opening up the of the chest; image size 112cm x 137cm
