Where am I in this world?

Where am I in this world?

Installation, Symbol / Letter, Metal, 88x79cm
Said Rais
presents a satellite dish with the map of the world imprinted on its surface, concentrated on ideas of global and local positioning and questions of communication. Through its transmission and reception of signals, the dish communicates with satellites and permits the television to illuminate endless images, which in turn enter and intervene in personal and public space, communicating messages with the world.

The dish takes the practical function of the earth’s rounded surface, calling into question your own geographical location, as well as the political and social implications of where you reside. Through this final piece, the audience is made to reflect upon methods of communication and how they impact upon public space.
