My latest series explores the roots of obsession and narcissism. Children bound in jewel-encrusted straightjackets and military attire provides a commentary on materialism, and its effects when introduced during one’s formative years. My approach to this commentary is not grounded in the political or the parental, but rather in the psychological. I am interested in children’s self-driven fascination with material objects, how this can evolve into obsession, and how that obsession can lead to battles with one’s ego, narcissism, and loss of self-hood.

"The impression forces itself upon one that men measure by false standards, that everyone seeks power, success, riches for himself, and admires others who attain them, while undervaluing the truly precious thing in life.” Sigmund Freud.

I am also interested in the idea that though we may not vocalise or acknowledge it, children are being exposed, more and more, to the ugliness and brutality of the world through mass media, accessibility of information, and suchlike.
