The Chain

Reading makes us free. The dominant element in this opera is clearly that of the links of a chain. It's broken however by a sheet of steel, both an allegorical element and the backbone of the structure on which the books are placed. It's strong visual impact comes to the fore when the entire length of the arc is filled with books
