Il ritorno dei contadini
The project return of farmers highlights a very old story, that of the peasant population of Gibellina, which for centuries had known disasters and misfortunes, passing out of the hands of the mafia exploitation of feudal patronage to finish the tough ordeal with the earthquake ' 68.
This a tragedy that profoundly changed the history of the city and its inhabitants.
Today Gibellina is a real city, and even beautiful, in which lives a generation of adults who have no memories and no regrets, perhaps the old village.
My performance puts the center of everything the farmer (box with ruins), which after many years returns to the farm returns to claim the land for so long denied
Back from the wreckage, asking humbly to work, to earn their daily bread, this time not as a servant, but a free man. It is ready to dig and sow, to labor in that land so loved and hated at the same time. The boxes of fruit in this context represent the body of peasants, while the ruins of their soul.
The performance was documented and photographed with a video clip. The deposition of the tapes fell into the majestic structure of the architect Francesco Venezia "The house of Lorenzo," which encloses the fragments of an ancient feud. That's utopia! farmers for the first time entering the master's house, a great achievement, the conquest for centuries and centuries have tried and never got. My job was to accompany these poor people, just accompany.
