“Die Mauer in den Koepfen” is the expression nowadays used in Germany to underline psychological troubles of the ex-citizens of DDR in their integration with the East. And “Die Mauer” survives for animals too. The proud red deer, symbols of the free nature of Mitteleuropa, which live around the eastern zone, close to the ex-boundary of the Iron Curtain, do not walk to the West. A research of zoologists, who provided the animals with GPS collars, showed as leaders, females, babies and lonely deer keep avoiding the boundary line, “dead line” for them too during the Cold War.
