Celeste Prize, In Conflict - Visible White Photo Prize

Why enter the prizes

By doing so, you support yourself and the collective effort of a network. Your work is instantly viewed in one of the largest, online arts networks worldwide, which brings visibility, promotion and sharing of your work to arts professionals around the world. The network exists thanks to the contribution made by your prize entry fee, Premium membership and advertising.

Where does the money go

Money from prize entries is immediately redistributed to pay for programming and administering the network, as well as paying for awards and logistics associated with organizing the prize. In recognition of this crucial role and the need to maintain its circularity, as organizers, we work to make the network as inclusive, as open, and as functional as possible for all members.

Active redistribution

We believe our ethos of active redistribution of entry fees to the network, is not only the most advanced way of carrying forward a self-sustainable cultural project today, but as we move forward, it brings new and unforeseen benefits to members. We have achieved all this to date without a major economic sponsor. Instead, we continue to rely on subscription fees from artists and the many free, technical sponsorships which partners are willing to offer.

Steven Music

Founder & Editor

I created Celeste Network, an online community for contemporary artists, in 2007 in response to the growing needs of artists to have their artwork shown to a wider audience across the internet. Celeste Network organises every year, Celeste Prize (an international art prize, since 2006) and Visible White Photo Prize (a photography prize, since 2012), and Premio Celeste (a prize for Italian artists, 2004-14). In Celeste Network's community of 75,000 members, visited by 8,000 art lovers every day, I organise exhibitions, events and prizes around the world. Between 2001 and 2006 I ran Albero Celeste, a contemporary art gallery in Italy, after nearly 9 years working as a ‘runner’ with galleries in Europe for contemporary and modern artists. I was the BBC’s second correspondent in Rome (1990-2), and covered energy affairs as a journalist in London for Petroleum Argus, as well as collaborating with Reuters and the Financial Times (1986-9). I have a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Politics from the Bristol University, UK.

Administration & Logistics

I studied art history and my first job was in an art gallery that I subsequently managed for a few years before starting to work in Celeste Network. I've always been attracted by contemporary art and especially by artists who create it. I have great admiration for those who can access other worlds and create alternative languages to the use of the written or spoken word, in the words of Diane Arbus "My favorite thing is to go where I've never been." I take care of the administration in Celeste, as well as organize the logistics for exhibitions, and communications with artists both in relation to the network and to the awards.

Giulio Machetti

Marketing & Advertising

I began working in contemporary art in 2011, when I joined Celeste Network team as the person in charge of marketing and communication. I deal with the content of the Network’s profiles in social media, I manage working relationships with various editors and media, and I help organizations we work with get maximum exposure for their events or activities. I graduated in Business Communication at the Faculty of Siena, Italy, with a thesis on digital communication.
