Description of Decorative Growth Pattern: In this piece a living natural system takes on the form of a manufactured decorative pattern. Leaves are laser cut into a digital vector image and suspended in square tiled petri dishes that contain the nutrients necessary to promote new leaf growth of the in vitro tissue, allowing the occupants to the space to witness morphological changes in the pattern over the duration of the exhibit as new leaves sprout from the edges of the totipotent cultured cells. Though not fully realized here, this piece is exploring a territory where human constructions are present in the genetic formations of living systems.
